Search by District and/or Owner

Notice by the above search description this is an and/or search. This means that you have to enter something in the Owner Field but not necessarily in the District Field. If you leave the District Field blank then the search will be for the entire County you have selected  in the County pull-down Field. You may want to enter a District Value to limit the amount of return data. In the Owner Field the LAST name is always first.

West Virginia does not use a standard abbreviation or spaces in a name. A blank space is a valid character in a database search. For example, if you want to find Old McDonald's farm then first enter MCDONALD. If this does not return any names then try MC DONALD. Notice the blank space between the "MC" and the "DONALD". Some Counties use a blank space and some do not. Try both spellings to be certain you have thoroughly searched the County. Also, lookout for names with an "S" on the end. For example, suppose you were given the name "JIM MCDANIELS" to search for in Pocahontas County. First, the name JIM may be JAMES, but the more difficult name is MCDANIELS. The correct name may be MCDANIEL without  the "S" on the end. Since all the searches on Digital Courthouse are SQL searches leaving off the "S" will return all MCDANIEL names with and without the "S" on the end. Example searches are as follows:

MCDANIELS JIM  - This will return nothing.

MC DANIELS JIM - This will return nothing.

MCDANIEL JIM    - This will return nothing.

MCDANIELS J       - This will return nothing.

MCDANIEL JAMES - This will return one record.

MCDANIEL J - This will return one record but would have found JAMES or JIM or JIMMY or JOSEPH or anything beginning with the letter "J".
